Pastor’s Pen July 2016

In our study of Luke’s Gospel, we have been looking at a number of situations where faith matters.

As the disciples faced a storm they feared they would die, and all the while Jesus was asleep. When they woke Him, He calmed the storm and then asked, “where is your faith.” Jesus had told them they were going to the other side, yet they doubted that would happen. How often do we doubt? Jesus is always near, so if you are facing a storm ask Him to help. He is quite able to see you through to the other side of the storm.

When Jesus healed the demon possessed man at Gerasenes the towns people asked Jesus to leave. Why would they ask someone to leave when they have just witnessed such a great miracle? It seems they overlooked the healed man and were focusing on the dead pigs. Do we do that too? Instead of focusing on the miraculous change Jesus can bring in our lives, we focus on our pigs, the things it may cost us. We need to keep our eyes on Jesus and what He can do for us.

Then Jesus met two people. There was the woman who had been bleeding for 12 years and no one could help her, as well as Jairus, whose daughter died while Jesus was still on His way. Two people without hope. Yet Jesus helped them both. When all seems lost, we can still count on Jesus.

Different situations, but in each case Jesus provides a solution. We need to remember that whatever the situation, Jesus still there waiting to help us. Don’t forget to ask Him for help!
