Pastor’s Pen – June 2016

As Joshua prepared to take Jericho we read:

Jos 5:13 Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?” 14 “Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the LORD I have now come.” Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lord have for his servant?”

The important thing to take note of here is that it wasn’t a matter of finding out if the Lord was on Joshua’s side, but is Joshua be on the Lord’s side. God never chose to be on the side of Joshua, rather Joshua determined to serve God.

This is still the same today. There is no point in asking God to be on our side, rather we need to choose to serve Him and be on His side. We don’t design programmes and then summons God to come and bless them, rather we seek to discern what God is already doing and join in with His plan.

As we prepare to take the next step with our church development we need to be listening carefully to the small still voice of God, so that we can join in His plan.
