Pastor’s Pen – November 2014

This month we will conclude our series on Galatians. The message is loud and clear, we are saved only by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ. There is nothing more to add to our salvation, no works, no rituals, no law. We are made children of God through his grace alone.

It is encouraging to know that our salvation isn’t dependant on how well we follow a set of rules or perform rituals. If that were the case we would all be in trouble as we have all failed to obey God’s laws. But having received the free gift of salvation our response should be to want to please God, and do our best to serve him. This is evidence that our faith is genuine. These acts of service don’t save us, rather they are a response to the salvation we already have.

Next we will turn our attention to Exodus. This book reveals a lot about God, his attributes, his pan for redemption, his law and how he is to be worshiped.

God is Lord of history, for there is no one like him: majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders. Neither the affliction of Israel nor the plagues of Egypt were outside of his control. Pharaoh, the Egyptians and all Israel saw the awesome power of God. Through the scriptures we can look and see it too.
